Peter William ""Bill"" Rhyne Sr.

March 12, 1947 — June 17, 2020

Peter William ""Bill"" Rhyne Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2020 after many years of fighting significant health issues. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Fred Harold and Jean Rhyne nee Hanna on March 12, 1947.

Bill attended PS 107 Elementary School, John Jay Middle School and Brooklyn Tech High School. Bill belonged to Prospect Heights Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, NY and was an active member. Bill was photographed by his Uncle Dusty, as a little boy, for a human-interest spotlight in the Journal American Newspaper. Bill was a boy scout as a young child and in his adolescence, he continued to serve in summer camps and other boy scout activities where he especially enjoyed camping and fishing.
Bill was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam era. He served as Military Police, a job that he loved, and was stationed in Germany until his honorable medical discharge.

Bill met Joan at a family friend's house where he danced her down the hallway. They dated for four years. During that time, he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Accounting.

Bill and Joan were married on August 10, 1974.

In his career Bill worked for an engineering company, a newspaper company and CPA firms in New York and Colorado.

Upon their move to Aurora, Colorado, Bill joined First Presbyterian Church where he and Joan attended services. Bill was also closely affiliated with St. Therese Parish and Queen of Peace Parish.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bill and Joan often reminisced about the best time of their lives which was raising their children, a time where they enjoyed many special activities with their kids Cara and Peter. Bill most especially loved being Pop Pop to Ellie and River, talking with them over FaceTime and visiting with them. Bill's upbeat personality charmed his family and friends and he was very welcoming to them as well. Bill had a good sense of humor and he enjoyed hosting parties. Bill loved the Rocky Mountains and throughout his life in Colorado he enjoyed many outdoor actives including skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, swimming and hunting.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Harold and mother Jean Rhyne nee Hanna. Bill is survived by his loving wife Joan, daughter Cara (Josh), son Peter (Lauren) and grandchildren Ellie Ann and River William, sister Sallie, brother Fred, sister-in-law Ann Carol, brother-in-law Tom (Jackie) and his 16 loving nephews, nieces and their families.

Visitation and Rosary will be on Monday June 22, 2020 from 6-8pm at Horan & McConaty on Parker Road. The Funeral will be on Tuesday June 23, 2020 at Queen of Peace Parish in Aurora, CO. The family will greet people outside the church. A service at First Presbyterian Church of Aurora will be recorded on Wednesday June 24, 2020 and will be shared for viewing. Burial will be at a later date.

Both the funeral home and Queen of Peace parish have requested that face masks be worn during both the visitation and funeral. Queen of Peace has also asked that people do not gather inside the church before or after the funeral. The family will greet people outside of the church following the Mass at Queen of Peace. Light refreshments will be served.
