My beloved husband our beloved father Philip Hageman passed away peacefully on November 25, 2020 at his home in Sedalia, CO with his wife by his side. Phil was born on December 3, 1957 in Denver, CO and this is where he and his wife Rona decided to build a family together. Phil received a Bachelors of Science in Geology from the University of Colorado Denver and he applied these studies to pursue a career that he truly loved. Phil was a Physical Research Scientist for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for over 30 years where he specialized in geochemistry. He retired from the USGS in 2018 and during his tenure he received many accolades, published many research publications, and was featured in many scientific journals. For more information on Phil’s contribution to his area of expertise, visit https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Philip Hageman.
As devoted as Phil was to his career, he was even more devoted to his family as a husband and father. Phil took the time to dedicate his undivided attention to his family, regardless of how busy he was and he always treated everyone with equality, with dignity, and with respect. Not only was Phil a wealth of knowledge (which he loved sharing), he was a man of many trades and hobbies; he loved building things, he loved his plants (he had the greenest thumb of anyone), designing and implementing landscaping ideas, giving great advice and guidance, and traveling the world with his family.
Phil defied the original prognosis the doctors gave him of living less than one year with the highly aggressive brain cancer diagnosis, and he fought valiantly for two years until succumbing to the cancer on November 25th, 2020. He always reiterated that he was fighting the cancer for his family, and this will never be forgotten. He was a true stalwart.
Phil is survived by his wife, Rona ,by daughter Shannon, son Ian, and daughter-in-law Collette. His sisters Ann (Steve), Jan, and Lisa (Ben), one uncle, two aunts, and several cousins, nephews, nieces, and five brothers and sisters-in-law survive him. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, or donations made to the CU brain tumor program or to your favorite charity.
