Philip Lawrence ""Larry"" Smith born February 22, 1938 in Manton, Kentucky. He was the son of Philip R. and Winifred Smith. He was married to Anna Jean Mahoney at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado on November 29, 1969. He had two daughters, Laura Patrice and Lisa Eileen. Laura and husband Christopher Toebe have two sons, Jason (8) and Ryan (6). Lisa and husband Dr. Jeffrey Cecil have two girls and one boy, Anna (7), Megan (4) and Justin (2). Larry was the oldest of five boys, Donald, Cyril (deceased), Gerald, and Stephen. He was preceded in death by his parents. He used his middle name informally. Larry Smith attended St. Charles Grade and High School in Marian County Ky. He finished 2 years of High School and 2 years of college at St. Thomas Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from St. Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana in 1964 and was ordained to the Catholic Priesthood in May of 1964. He was a high school teacher and associate pastor in Louisville for 4 years. He chose to be laicized from the priesthood in 1968 and became a Neighborhood Services Director in Cincinnati, Ohio. Larry was employed by the non-profit Consumer Credit Counseling Service in Greater Denver for 31 years, being President for most of those years. He loved working at CCCS, both in counseling and as president of the fast growing community service organiztion. He worked hard and always strived to make the company the best at whatever they did. He was progressive, innovative, always measuring results, and thrived on healthy competition while keeping the needs of his clients and employees in the forefront. People knew him for his sense of humor and he loved his employees like family. He liked to exercise, listen to the radio talk shows, while claiming to be an independent. Music, all kinds, was another passion but his favorite was ""good old country music"". Although he was basically shy and quiet, he loved adventure. He loved travel, trivia of all kinds, hiking, waterfalls, river rafting, sports, mountain hiking, and even rode in a hot air balloon and an ultralite home made plane with one of his adventurous friends. His life always centered around family. He was a great loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.
