Cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on September 22, 2019. Born in Cloquet, MN on June 22,1930 to Esther Oinenen and Eino Ulvi she was the 2nd of 5 daughters growing up on a dairy farm. Graduated from nursing school (Mayos) in Rochester Minnesota, she met her first husband Carl Streufert while working in a Minneapolis hospital. They moved to Denver where Carl worked as a hospital administrator first with Lutheran Tuberculosis Sanitorium and later Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, CO. There her children Susan and Keith were born and raised. She worked as a nurse but genuinely loved caring for her family. She excelled at sewing clothes as well as painting. No project was too challenging as she crafted furniture and household projects.
She entertained frequently with most dinner parties having new homemade table cloths and napkins with unique centerpieces.
After the unexpected passing of her first husband Carl in 1976 she met Harold Hunt. They married and enjoyed 18 years of loving marriage with travel, dancing, Nebraska football games and enjoying each others families. Grand children Nicholas and Adele were born and she loved the role of being a ""Nana"". Harold passed away in 1996. She met Lew Casbon at Peace Lutheran Church and they were married in 2000. They spent many happy days enjoying their 2 cabins and a home in Arizona. Phyllis was diagnosed with Parkinson's yet maintained a positive attitude with Lew at her side.
People remember her grace and her smile. She had SISU ( Finnish determination and grit) which sustained her for 89 years. She is survived by her husband Lew Casbon and her children Sue Rancis and Keith Streufert (Dori Nielsen), grandchildren Nicholas Rancis ( Laura Holzem-Rancis) and Adele Paquette (Jimmy) and great granddaughter Elizabeth Rancis as well as her sister Carolyn Schneck (Phil) and many nieces and nephews.
