Pierce Owen Hopkins, age 24, had his journey tragically cut short on November 22, 2021 in Colorado.
Pierce was born on May 11th, 1997 in Aylesbury, England to Annabelle and Gary Hopkins; the most elated, proud and joyful parents. The Hopkins family moved to Colorado when Pierce was three years old. He was very proud of both his English and American heritage. As a child, Pierce was an avid Lego aficionado and deeply artistic. He always had the highest of taste and was drawn to the finer things in life, including tailored suits, Swiss watches, and fine dining. Even as a young child, he asked for a tuxedo for Christmas at age seven. In kindergarten, Pierce scoffed at the idea of using “chewed crayons” from the communal box, instead insisting on using his “special crayons” from the art supply store. Pierce had a love for the sibling rivalry and friendly competition he shared with his older brother Tyler, who he fondly looked up to and admired. He was always striving to match Tyler’s whit and emulate his sense of humor. Following in his big brother’s footsteps, Pierce attended Regis Jesuit High School and graduated in 2015.
From his very early years, Pierce’s cheeky grin and persona were defining aspects that he carried forward, making him the young man we are all so fond of. Pierce had a wealth of distinguishing characteristics. He was ambitious, energetic, the biggest of dreamers, nomadic and ever searching. He had a spirit of adventure, a creative mind and a playful soul.
Pierce was a consumer of knowledge and intrigue. He was determined to live his life to the fullest potential and was on a continuous mission to be the best version of himself. Pierce could not be constrained by social norms or rules, thus he marched to his own beat in everything that he did. Although Pierce’s free-spirited antics caused his mother many sleepless nights, she still supported his choices and loved him unconditionally through it all.
Pierce had a unique perspective on life, one not often shared by his contemporaries. In his search for knowledge and enlightenment, Pierce preferred to study the ancient philosophy of Stoicism, often quoting Seneca. A particularly poignant quote from Seneca states; “It’s not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it”. He was continuously working towards using his time efficiently to achieve meaningful goals and receiving the fullest enjoyment out of life. Pierce’s path was his own to the very end. Suffice to say, “While Alive, He Lived!”
Sculpting and artistic welding were creative passions for Pierce. Pierce was so committed to these passions, that he chose to work for a short time in industrial welding, so he could expand his practical knowledge of welding and apply that craftsmanship to his artistic endeavors. He had many creative ideas and dreams, constantly coming up with new ways to learn and grow.
Pierce was keenly interested in wolves. He dedicated time in his life to volunteer at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center near Colorado Springs, where he met one of his dearest friends Jade, who became like a sister to Pierce. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Pierce’s honor to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. https://www.paypal.com/donate/?business=tours@wolfeducation.org¤cy_code=USD&source=url
Pierce is survived by his mother, Annabelle L. Hopkins-Grossmann (George), his father, Gary D. Hopkins (Maria); his brother, Tyler W. Moffitt (Meagan), his nephews: Sterling and Julien Moffitt; his grandmother, Valerie Hopkins-Smith, his uncle, Stephen Hopkins (Helen); his cousin, George Hopkins; and his step-sisters: Sole and Lola.
Pierce is loved more than words can describe by his family and close friends. May your spirit run free Pierce; until we meet again.
