Polly Poindexter, 65, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. passed away July 20, 2018 at Skyridge Hospital from complications due to cancer that was very recently discovered. She was born February 4, 1953 to David Faehnle and Dorothy Kirkwood.
Polly is survived by her loving husband of 36 ½ years, Terry Poindexter and their 3 children, Michael Poindexter, Daniel Poindexter and Ashley Poindexter.
Polly or ""Miss Polly"" as she was known throughout the community, was the registrar at Rock Canyon High School, in the Douglas County School District for the last 9 years. Prior to Rock Canyon, she was the registrar at Redstone Elementary in the same District for an additional 9 years.
Annually, Douglas County recognizes the best teachers, support staff and administrators in the School District. Individuals are nominated by the community and their peers. Polly was very proud, appreciative and humbled that she was consistently nominated for the award.
She loved her involvement with the kids in the community. Being connected with the kids ""kept her feeling young"" as she would always say. And she knew all of them by name, affectionately earning her the name ""Miss Polly"" as she was known since beginning to work at Redstone.
Being a registrar, however was her ""2nd career"". Before taking a 10-year break to raise her own children, Polly was in the retail & fashion industry. She began as a fashion buyer for F&R Lazarus & Company in Columbus, Ohio and followed that career to Denver in the late 1970s, working both as a fashion buyer and then manager at The May D&F store in downtown Denver. She used to love going to New York City each month to purchase inventory for her store and became quite well known throughout the NY fashion scene.
Denver is where she met Terry and 4 years later they got married in Vail, Colorado. Following Terry's career, she went on to Chicago where she worked at Marshall Fields and then on to Los Angeles where she ended up as the store manager for Sak's Fifth Avenue in Woodland Hills, California.
She was an avid skier in her twenties and thirties and both her and Terry loved going to the mountains, later teaching each of the kids to ski or snowboard as they grew up. In the later years she loved playing golf with her husband. She called it ""the best 4-hour date."" She was also well known for her creativity, crafty nature, and world-famous pie crusts. But her special love was gardening, taking the plain barren backyard of the family's home and over the years creating a masterpiece of a botanical garden.
But, most of all she loved being a Mom and raising Michael, Daniel and Ashley. They were her life.
Polly was dearly loved not only by her family, but the entire community of Highlands Ranch, especially the Rock Canyon High School family over the last 9 years.
She will be greatly missed.
