Rae A. Bird

Rae was born in Oak Park, IL, and lived in Milwaukee, WI, Kansas City, KS, and Littleton, CO. She graduated from the University of Kansas Nursing School in 1957 and worked as a nurse for ten years, beginning as a pediatric nurse and advancing to house supervisor. Her life was then dedicated to her husband, Gerry, and children Susan, Heather, Jill, and Greg. After the Gerry died in 1989, she worked as a hospice nurse for ten years, helping many families through the often difficult transition between life and death. During that time she passed her nursing talents on to many hospice nurses. After retiring from The Hospice of Metro Denver, she spent several years as the parish nurse at Columbine United Church. She also found her calling as a grief counselor, leading grief support groups throughout the community. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and in particular, her ten grandchildren. She is survived by her children Susan, Heather (Ron), Jill (Derek), and Greg (Kathy), and grandchildren Ben, Katie, Lindsay, Kennedy, Mallory, Luke, Olivia, Jackson, Natalie, and Adam, as well as countless friends.
