Rafael Eduardo Juarez

October 13, 1935 — September 4, 2018

Rafael Eduardo Juarez age 82, passed away at his home in Evans, Colorado on Tuesday September 4, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 13, 1935 in Jaruco Havana Cuba. He came to America at age 17, became a Naturalized citizen when he joined the US Army as an MP. He was stationed at Fort Carson when he met Mary Agnes Gallegos. They married on January 9, 1960 and had 4 children. After the Army he became a police officer in Aurora, Colorado. He believed strongly in education and received his Bachelors of Arts at age 41 and even started his Masters in Political Science and Criminal Justice. He was a Deputy US Marshal for 8 years. On October 7, 1977, he became the first Hispanic US Marshal for the District of Colorado appointed by President Jimmy Carter. He worked for various agencies of the Federal government until he retired in 1994 at age 59. Being a US Marshal was the pinnacle of his life and career. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and beloved grandson Nigel Alexander Juarez-Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes and children Ralph Juarez, Gilbert Juarez (Hilda Alvarez), Veronica Nowak (Bret Nowak), and Cecilia Juarez (Jon Shelden). And his grandchildren, Angelina Juarez, Brittaney Juarez, Christopher Nowak (Jennifer), Garon Nowak, Traci Nowak, Erol Alvarez, Adrian Juarez, Diego Juarez, Azelea Juarez, Ian Johnson-Juarez, Jaken Juarez-Shelden and his great grandchildren, Yareth Valeria Alvarez, Iker Joaquin Alvarez and Dakota Nowak. He is also survived by his sister Marianita Juarez, niece Dariana Wong and nephew Rogelio Wong and their children.

The Rosary will be at 4:00PM, Sunday, September 16th, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard, Denver, Colorado. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM followed by a reception Monday, September 17, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street, Englewood, Colorado 80112. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, Denver Colorado 80236.
