Raymond Eugene “Gene” Moore, age 79, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at 6:22 p.m., surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on July 16, 1945, in Leoti, Kansas, to James Alvin Moore and Josephine Rippey Moore. He was a proud graduate of East High School in Denver, Colorado, class of 1963. On April 5, 1974, he married the love of his life, Sandra Altman. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, laughter, and adventure. To this union, three sons were born: Brian, Robert, and Jeff.
Gene worked hard and made a lasting mark in his career. He began working at Coors Brewing Company in 1972 and retired in 2005 after 33 years of dedication. He always had a memorable story to share from his years at Coors, often recalling moments with coworkers and his longtime friendship with Pete Coors — stories told with the kind of laughter and detail only Gene could deliver.
A legend in many ways, Gene earned countless records and honors throughout his life. In high school, he was a Golden Glove boxer, and in 1967, he made his mark in the racing world as a World Record Drag Racer at Mountain View Dragway during the Mile High Nationals. His competitive spirit carried into the great outdoors, where he achieved extraordinary success in bow hunting. From 1983 to 1998, Gene held the world record for archery Big Horn Sheep — a title that now ranks #14 globally and remains a lasting testament to his unmatched skill and passion for the outdoors.
Gene’s true joy was in the simple moments: bow hunting, fishing, racing, and spending time with his family, especially at Christmas! He was a devoted coach, guiding his sons from T-ball at four years old through high school baseball. He passed on his love for the outdoors by taking his grandsons fishing and shared his heart through his legendary breakfasts — especially his homemade hash browns.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra Moore (Altman), and their children: Brian Moore (wife Kara) of Hays, KS; Robert Moore (fiancé Nicole) of Strasburg, CO; and Jeff Moore (wife Chelsea) of Aurora, CO. He was a proud grandfather to Andrew, Ashlyn, Brilynn, and Colton. He is also survived by his nephew who was like a son, Patrick Silver (wife Sandra; daughter Naya) of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters-in-law Valerie Altman and Cheryl Silver. He is also remembered by nieces and nephews Kenny Coyle, Gina Coyle-Lisowe, Deanna Helderman, Artina Coyle, Craig Silver and Kelly Dalton, along with many more close friends and extended family.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine Moore, and his siblings, Dale Moore and Phyllis Coyle.
To his family, Gene was more than a husband, father, or grandfather — he was a hero. He always greeted his sons and grandsons with a warm “Hi, Son” and left a smile behind with his favorite phrase: “I’ll decide.” He will be remembered for his strength, sense of humor, and the unwavering love he gave to everyone lucky enough to be part of his life.
