Raymond Mercedes Ybarra, 84 years old, passed away at home in Denver, Colorado on July 17, 2022.
Born September 24, 1937; in Compton, California. He grew up in Watts, lived in Willowbrook, Compton, Bellflower, Henderson NV, and Denver CO.
Raymond obtained an Associates of Arts at Compton College, served in The United States Army, and worked at Alcoa for 25 years in Vernon, California, as a layout inspector. Raymond was a member of the Union, Catholic faith, and Democratic Party. He was the President & a coach of the Pony Colt Baseball League and coached in the Pop Warner Football League for a combined 15 years. He helped achieve the impossible by beating Lakewood baseball, who were always undefeated. He is loved and respected to this day by the Bellflower youth sports community. A devoted sports fan of The Los Angeles Lakers and college football team The UCLA Bruins. He loved an array of music mostly Jazz and Blues. If he wasn’t watching sports or sports news, he was watching one his favorite TV programs The History Channel, A&E, Lifetime, and Hallmark. One movie he would laugh so hard to was “The Gods must be crazy”. Married almost 61 years in August leaving a legacy of children, grandchild, great and great greatgrandchildren. Raymond may have been a silent provider but when he spoke it was mostly a learning moment. Teaching the importance of education, hard work and what it meant to be a proud Chicano from the struggles of cultural survival.

Raymond was preceded in death by Father Gabriel, Mother Adelina, Daughter Donna, Son Raymond, and Brother Gabriel
Viewing will be held between 9:30am-11am, Wednesday, August 10th at Horan & McConaty 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora, CO 80014.
Services will take place from 11am-12:15pm
Burial will be at Fort Logan 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver CO 80236 at 1:15pm.
