Mickie Kilker, 87 passed away on May 9, 2018. Mickie was born in Denver, CO on October 30, 1930. She grew up on Court Place in downtown Denver. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949. She had many great memories from growing up when Denver was a smaller community, and from her summers on a family farm in Oklahoma. She attended both the University of Cincinnati and Loretta Heights College. She married Don Kilker in 1953 and they settled in their Sloans Lake home where they thrived in the diversity and vibrancy of their neighborhood for the past 65 years. Mickie was a devoted wife and loving mother to her two sons, and had many adventures with her grand children. She was a great contributor to her community through teaching swimming and volunteering for Colorado Special Olympics. She was a docent at the Denver Art Museum for many years and a member of the Colorado writers guild as a published author. She thrived in using and supporting public access to museums, libraries, zoos, or wherever she ventured. Mickie and her family enjoyed many memorable trips together from camping in the early years to exploring the United States, Canada and Europe. She was particularly fond of traveling by train where she could soak in the landscape. A life long servant of God, she attended daily mass and more often than not she walked to church enjoying her precious neighborhood along the way. She was an active member of the Dominican Laity at St Dominic's church. Survived by her sons David (Katie) and Tom (Gayle); grandchildren, Clare, Michael, Ryan and Andrew. Also survived by siblings Byron Lewis, Laurel Fennie, and Claudia Hodges. She is preceded in death by her husband Don Kilker, Father, Mike Nichols, Mother, Gladys Moyot. The Rosary will be held at 10AM, Monday, May 14th at St. Dominic Catholic Church, West 29th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30AM. Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mickie's name to St. Dominic Church, 3053 w. 29th ave., Denver, CO 80211.
