Rebecca ""Becky"" Ann Osterbrock ""Blessed are the pure of heart, they shall see God."" â Matthew 5:8. As we go through life we meet people that just make us feel good. They always have a smile on their face and are always willing to listen and to just be there for you. They are kind and loving and the spirit of God just shines through. They aren't flashy, but they garner your respect and your love. They are surrounded by special people and have a positive impact on their lives. They appear to be quiet, but their inner strength and character shines through none-the-less. When things need to get done they pitch in and give it their all. They are humble, often to the point of feeling insecure because they never feel good enough, yet they in their own way accomplish more than most people and truly impact the people and world around them. They can often surprise you with their humor and spunk. They are a testimony to their Lord and Savior. Becky is one of those people. She will always be in our hearts. We truly are better for having known her. Becky was born on November 9, 1951 in Santa Barbara, CA. Her parents are Dick and Grace Elkins and on that day they were surprised and blessed with a second girl, Kathy. When Dick was told that he had twin girls, he told the nurse ""you must have the wrong father."" Becky also has two brothers, James and John. Becky went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2015 after a 17-month battle with lung cancer. For thirty-eight years, Becky was a loving wife to her husband, Jack. They met at a church retreat in Buena Vista, CO. Jack was playing Ping-Pong and in one of her assertive moments she introduced herself and we are glad she did. Due to a chronic kidney disease, Jack and Becky did not expect to have children of their own, but through prayer and the mercy of God they are blessed with two children, Karen and Jonathan. Karen is married to Greg Marcuson and they have two boys, Caleb (3) and Micah (1) with a third expected in January. Jonathan is married to Caitlin (Spencer) and they have three boys, Owen (6), Samuel (4), and Miles (2) and one girl, Maija (5 mo). Becky loved being a mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to that and she was very good at it. So much of who she is has been passed on to Karen and Jonathan. She will be greatly missed, but her influence will always be there. Due to circumstances surrounding her twin sister's death in 2001, Becky has had considerable impact on the life of her nephew, Brian and even more involvement in the life of her niece, Amy. Beside the cancer, Becky has had to face considerable adversity in her life. While in Pakistan, she contracted a serious kidney disease, acute Glomerulonephritis, and nearly died. This became a chronic problem throughout her life that impacted having children and her medical treatment. Her brother Jim had the same condition and was on dialysis for several years until he received a kidney transplant from his brother John. Her twin sister, Kathy, died of the same non-smoker, Adenocarcinoma lung cancer that Becky had and her aunt June was diagnosed with the same lung cancer including the specific gene mutation. First and foremost, Becky had a love of God. She became a Christian at an early age. She came from a strong Christian heritage. Her parents, Dick and Grace Elkins served as missionaries in Pakistan and Guam. Dick had several ministries working with college students and Dick served as pastor (with Grace's help) of Grace Baptist Church in St. Helens, OR. In retirement, Dick and Grace have had a ministry with Muslims. Becky's uncle's family served as missionaries for many years in Brazil and her grandfather pastored and planted churches in California and Oregon. This Christian heritage has been passed on to her children. Karen and Jonathan became Christians as children and have each had strong ministries. Becky loved music. She had a beautiful voice. She loved Christian music and her voice was made for it. While capable of captivating solos and small group performances, she loved to sing in choirs. In college she sang in the Westmont Choir. She has sung in several church choirs and for the last 20 years performed with the Cherry Creek Chorale. Her dad has a beautiful voice and Becky often performed duets with him while her mom played the piano. Again Becky has passed this heritage on to her children. Karen grew up singing and dancing and Jonathan plays the guitar and likes to lead worship singing. Becky was a teacher and loved to serve students. She received an English degree from Westmont College and a Masters in Secondary Reading from the University of Northern Colorado. Although much of her adult life was dedicated to raising and teaching her children, she did teach several years in the Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts and liked teaching remedial reading. She tutored middle school students in WizKids and also helped Chinese visiting scholars at the University of Denver with their English. Besides her loving husband, Jack; Becky leaves behind her children, Karen Marcuson and Jonathan Osterbrock; her children's spouses Greg Marcuson and Caitlin Osterbrock; her grandchildren, Owen, Samuel, Miles, Maija, Caleb and Micah; her parents, Dick and Grace Elkins; her siblings James, John, Kathy (deceased); uncle Dewey, aunt Edith, and aunt Lee; her brother-in-law, Mark Osterbrock and his wife, Mary Beth; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends. We all will miss her greatly, but are thankful that we will have our Lord and each other to help us through this. The memorial service will be held on Thursday October 8th at 10:30 AM in the sanctuary of Colorado Community Church, 2220 S Chambers Rd, Aurora, CO 80014. A lunch reception will be held in the Upper Room immediately following the service.
