Edward Reid Graves Jr. of Fort Lupton died August 23, 2018. He was 85.
A fifth-generation Coloradan, he was born in Pueblo on August 19, 1933, the oldest child of Edward Reid Graves Sr. and Mildred Stewart Graves.
Reid earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry from Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University), where he also played football. Reid spent his life sharing his passion for agriculture, particularly the small family farms and ranches. Besides having his own small ranch where he raised cattle and sheep, he was active in many agricultural organizations, including 4-H Catch a Calf, National Western Stock Show and many other boards and committees.
He married Mary Elaine Gregory on Jan. 30, 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; four children from his first marriage: Mike Graves (Kathy Graves), Laurie Livesay, Betsy Goodell (Rob Goodell), and David Graves (Dawn Graves); eight grandchildren: Bailey Vail (Brandon Vail), Addem Goodell, Kim Graves, Kelcie Cleary (Brandon Cleary), Erin Goodell, Sara Graves, Jack Graves, and Ryan Graves; and one great-grandchild: Colson Vail.
Reid was preceded in death by his younger brother, Larry, and is survived by his younger sister, Eleanor Hubbard (Ken Hubbard) and sister-in-law Marie Graves.
A retired consultant of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Reid was a proud member and volunteer with Kiwanis, the Fort Lupton Historical Society, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity (Colorado Delta Chapter).
A service is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8545 East Dry Creek Road, Centennial.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Edward R. and Mildred S. Graves Scholarship fund, c/o Colorado State University.
