Reverend Manuel A. Gabel, age 84, born July 25, 1931 in Manzanola, CO. Priest Ordination, May 31, 1957 by Archbishop Urban J. Vehr. Entered into eternal life on April 29, 2016 in Denver, CO. Fr. Gabel attended grade school in Rocky Ford, CO, St. Patrick's in Denver, as well as Cathedral and St. Francis de Sales High Schools. Attended St. Thomas Seminary and received a Master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1966. Fr. Gabel's assignments included Assistant Pastor at Holy Ghost in Denver, Annunciation in Leadville, Presentation of Our Lady in Denver, St. Francis de Sales in Denver and St. Mark's in Westminster; Pastor at St. John's in Stoneham, St. Anthony's in Julesburg, St. Francis de Sales in Denver, St. Francis of Assisi in Castle Rock, Our Lady of the Mountains in Estes Park, and St. Martin de Porres in Boulder. He served as Chaplain for Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs and the Knights of Columbus, Council 3549 in Julesburg; On sabbatical he took part in ""The Jerusalem Program,"" a scriptural study program in the Holy Land. Fr. Gabel was granted retirement status in 2001. Survived by brother Virgil Gabel. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rose Gabel; siblings Sr. Mary Hilda Gabel, Seraphine Gabel, Alex Gabel, Victor Gabel, Louie Gabel, Sr. Mary Louise Gabel, Stella Marie Chetlat, and Sue Burnham. Vigil Service, Thurs., 7:00 PM, St. Francis of de Sales Catholic Church, 300 S. Sherman St., Denver with visitation one hour prior. Funeral Mass, Fri., 10:00 AM, Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St., Denver with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
