Rev. Msgr. Leo Horrigan

November 20, 1934 — September 17, 2017

Monsignor Horrigan moved to Denver from Iowa with his family at the age of 3. Attended St. John's Grade School and St. Francis de Sales High School. Attended Regis College, St Thomas Seminary, and the North American College in Rome. Ordained a priest at the North American College on December 20, 1959. Returned to the Archdiocese of Denver and was assigned as an Assistant Pastor at Holy Family Catholic Church in Denver. He was subsequently assigned as Assistant Pastor at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. He served as an Assistant and then as Pastor at St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Denver. Father Horrigan was then assigned to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and also served as the first Vicar for Priests under Archbishop James Casey. Father Horrigan then moved to Blessed Sacrament Church in Denver and served as pastor for 13 years. Following that assignment, Father Horrigan became pastor of Notre Dame Church in Denver. On September 25, 2000, Father Horrigan was appointed Prelate of Honor by St. Pope John Paul II. Monsignor Horrigan retired in 2010 and assisted in numerous parishes throughout the Denver area. Monsignor Horrigan is survived by his brother, Joseph (Bernadine) Horrigan; sister in law, Jo Jean Horrigan and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by several siblings, nieces and nephews. A Vigil Service will be at 7 PM on Wednesday at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 2190 South Sheridan Blvd. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Thursday at Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 401 East Colfax Avenue. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
