Reverend David S. Noreen

March 31, 1930 — December 28, 2023

David was born in Gresham, Oregon on 3/31/1930 and peacefully passed away on 12/28/23 at Covenant Living of Colorado where and he and his wife Marilyn (previously deceased on 1/15/23) resided since May 1996.

After graduation from high school in Gresham, David attended North Park College from 1949 through 1951. David earned his BS in Education at Purdue University in 1953. While at North Park he met his future wife, Marilyn Larson, in 1950 and they were married in 1952.

David lived a lifetime of service to others and had a calling for ministry, attending North Park Seminary, graduating with a Master’s of Divinity in 1955. Following graduation, he was called to start a new church, Northwest Covenant Church in Mount Prospect, IL. He subsequently served Covenant churches in South Bend, Indiana and St Paul, Minnesota. While in South Bend David also earned a Master’s in Education from Indiana University.

In 1970 David was elected to serve as Secretary of Christian Education for the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination. He served in this role for 16 years. He ended his full-time career as Minister of Congregational Life at Farmington Hills Covenant in Michigan until retirement in 1996. However, pastoral work was his passion and he continued to work at Covenant living of Colorado in a variety of part-time roles including Chaplain, Director of Church Relations and fund raising as Director of Stewardship. He fully retired at age 87 in 2017.

When not working David enjoyed spending time with family and traveling the world with his wife Marilyn. They organized travel groups in their retirement years visiting 60 countries. They saw travel as an opportunity for continued ministry, discovery and fulfillment of God’s purpose and calling and made many lasting friendships touring countries across the globe.

David is survived by children Jerry (spouse Karen), Ken (spouse Lorena) and Julie Abrahamson (spouse Kurt) as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Phyllis Troyer and Bob Noreen as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Floella, and sister Donna.
