Reverend Monsignor Edward Madden was born May 2, 1926 in Denver, to Edward and Mary Alice (Kelly) Madden, and passed away August 23, 2017 at age 91. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Sr. M. Karen Madden, S.L., Sr. Loretto Anne Madden, S.L. and Sr. Therese J. Madden S.L. Monsignor Madden attended grade school at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic School and graduated from Regis High School. He attended Saint Thomas Seminary and The Catholic University of America. He was ordained a priest June 7, 1952 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Archbishop Urban J. Vehr, and was appointed Prelate of Honor by Pope St. John Paul II on September 29, 1996. Monsignor. Maddenâs assignments included Assistant Pastor at Holy Family Parish and the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception; Administrator at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Boulder, and Pastor of Shrine of Saint Anne, Arvada; Holy Trinity Parish, Colorado Springs; Saint Bernadette Parish, Lakewood; Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Boulder; Saint Rita Parish, Nederland; and Our Lady of the Plains Parish in Byers. He served as Dean to the Colorado Springs Deanery and the Boulder Deanery. Additional Archdiocesan positions he held were Member of the Personnel Board; Vicar for Priestly Personnel; Co Director of the Permanent Deacon Program; Member of the Archdiocesan College of Consultors; Member of the Presbyteral Council; Chairman of the Airport Ministry Committee and Moderator of the Southeastern Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. He was granted retirement status June 15, 2005. Rosaries will be Monday, 3PM at Little Sisters of The Poor, 3629 West 29th Avenue and 7PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1318 Mapleton Avenue in Boulder. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, 10AM at Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, East Colfax Avenue and Logan Street. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
