Reverend Melvin F. Thompson

Fr. Melvin F. Thompson as born on September 14, 1935 in Pinedale, WY to Andrew and Margaret Thompson, and passed away December 20, 2016 at his home in Denver. He received a B.A. from Univ. of Wyoming, attended St. Lawrence Seminary, Mt. Calvary WI, and St. Thomas Seminary in Denver. He was ordained May 31, 1967 in Big Piney, WY, by Bishop Leo C. Byrne, DD, and Incardinated into the Archdiocese of Denver, on Dec. 17, 1971. Fr. Mel was Assistant Pastor at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Wichita, KS, Christ the King and St. Rose of Lima Parishes in Denver, Divine Redeemer Parish, Colorado Springs and St. Thomas More Parish in Centennial. He was Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn, St. Vincent de Paul, Denver, and Our Lady of Fatima in Lakewood. He was also the Chaplain of St. Mary High School in Colorado Springs, 1970-1977 and served five terms as Dean of the West Denver Deanery. He was granted retirement status December 31, 2010. Fr. Mel is survived by many friends and former parishioners, his classmates, Fr. Ed Poehlman, Msgr. Ken Leone, and Fr. Roland Freeman, and his Caritas group, Fr. Ken Liuzzi, Fr. Marty Lally and Fr. Bert Chilson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Carmelite Monastery of the Holy Spirit, 6138 South Gallup Street, Littleton, CO 80120. Visitation will begin 5:00 PM, Monday, December 26th, followed by the Vigil Service at 7PM, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2375 East Arizona Avenue. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, 10:30AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street; Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
