Richard ""Butch"" B. Bridgforth III

March 18, 1949 — April 6, 2015

Richard Baskerville Bridgforth III, ""Butch"", 66, of Denver, Colorado died in Denver on Monday, April 6, 2015. Butch was born March 18, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia to the late Richard ""Budick"" and Nancy Bridgforth of Danville, Virginia. Butch was born in Richmond, VA and grew up in Danville. A graduate of St. Andrews University he went on to earn an MBA from the College of William and Mary. He obtained his CPA and worked in Washington DC with Deloitte Consulting and with United Energy Resources in Houston, TX before joining Daniels and Associates in Denver, CO. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and their three children, Maggie, Bass and Austin and soon to become son-in-law Travis Bartlett, to be married to his daughter Maggie in June. He is also survived by his four siblings, Andy Bridgforth; Robert Bridgforth and wife Georgie Lee of Danville, VA; Nan Williams and husband Scot of Charlotte, NC; and John Bridgforth and wife Monika of Cape Charles, VA and nephews and nieces, Elizabeth and husband Andy, Will, Charlie, Andrew, Anna, and Julia. He is survived by maternal Uncle Dr. Andy Dickinson and his sister Jane Dickinson, both of Virginia Beach as well as numerous cousins on both his mother's and father's side. He is survived by his wife's mother, Betty Grimes Horne and her husband Frank of Charlotte, NC; brother in laws, Ben Grimes and wife Patsy, Jack Grimes and wife Linda, Randy Grimes and Dawn, and nieces and nephews Frank, Jenna, Michael, and Kristy. Butch relished the love and kinship of his large and extended family, from the Kenbridge based Bridgforths on his father Budick's side to the Eastern Shore based Dickinsons on his mother Nancy's side. He took great pride in remembering and honoring all of his ancestors with colorful, humorous and character filled stories told over camp fires, at family reunions and over many a family dinner table. Butch was an accomplished wrestler in high school, going on to compete in the NCAA college championships. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed climbing the Colorado, North Carolina and Virginia mountains, scaling rock faced walls and navigating the rivers of his home state, Colorado, with his children and siblings. He always supplied the energy and can-do spirit to every adventure he undertook and at every level of living. Due largely to his zest for life and adventure, Butch was a terrific conversationalist, well-informed, well-read, articulate and always eager to listen and learn from colleagues, friends, family and especially the total stranger sitting next to him at a roadside diner. He had a unique ability to engage people with his sincere and earnest manner, his formidable memory and his highly inquisitive and friendly nature, always with a smile, a laugh and a quip, favoring the folksy side of most conversations. Butch will be dearly missed by family and friends in the years ahead. His absence from our lives is hard to imagine, but the peace he has found today is a blessing and a remembrance for all the many happy years we have spent together. For this we are truly thankful. Services to remember Butch will be held in Denver at Greenwood Community Church, Monday, April 13, 11:00am. A reception will follow at Glenmoor Country Club. A second service will be held Saturday, April 18, 1:00pm at The United Methodist Church, 201 East 5th Avenue, Kenbridge, Virginia. A burial will follow at Kenbridge Heights Cemetery.
