Richard F. Bull

December 12, 1933 — September 15, 2011

Richard “Dick” Bull, 77, of Greenwood Village, died unexpectedly at Swedish Medical Center on September 15, 2011.

He is survived by his wife Patsy; his 2 daughters Pamela Bull Orban (Bob) of Lone Tree, Colorado and Carolyn Bull Gorman (Steve) of Cornelius, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren, Brandy Suppi, Nicole, Robert, Danielle, and Ricky Orban; Jamie, Stephen, Charlie, and Sarah Gorman; a sister, Ruth Demuth-Sandford; and 2 step-sons, Rich and Lance Clark; nieces and nephew, Katherine, Kimberly, Mary, and Hal.

Dick was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in northern California. He attended the University of California-Davis on Forestry and Football scholarships before joining the United States Air Force in 1953. After graduating from Pilot Training in 1954, he was then commissioned. He married Barbara Jenkins, they were married for 37 years, and together raised their 2 daughters. As a test pilot, he was stationed in France, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina, and Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama where he was Chief of Flight Test for the F-105 Thunderchief and continued flying until 1967. He then served in the Reserves and retired from the USAF as a Lt. Col. When he returned to civilian life, Dick worked for McDonnell Douglas and Martin Marietta Corp in their Aerospace Engineering Departments. He believed in education as has passed on that value to his daughters and his grandchildren. He earned a BS from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, a PhD from Washington University in St. Louis in Human Factors Engineering, and a MBA from the University of Northern Colorado.

Dick moved back to Colorado in 1991 where he met Pasty Clark, they were married in 1994 in one of their favorite places, Santa Fe, New Mexico. He enjoyed reading, watching his favorite teams – the Broncos and the Avalanche play, and he especially enjoyed visiting with his family and special friends. He was so proud of his family and loved spending special time with them, especially sharing a meal and visiting for hours around the table. He was the sweetest, kindest, most caring man. Even though he had many reasons to complain – he rarely did. He was always greeted his visitors with his special smile and always asked, “how are you doing?”, he truly cared.

The memorial service for Dick will be held on Friday, 12:00 Noon, October 14th at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, Colorado 80122. A Committal Service with Full Military Honors will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Pavilion ‘A’ at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Colorado/Wyoming Chapter, PO Box 172625, Denver, Colorado 80217-2625.
