Richard (Dick) J. Cunningham passed away at his home on April 30, 2018. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 18, 1940. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his 5 children, John, Marge Strawn (Jim), James, Chris, Mary Jane McQuhae (Dan); 6 grandchildren, Tyler Strawn, Lauren TenBraak, Madison Cunningham, Brennan Cunningham, Cameron Cunningham, Lena Cunningham and Katie Meredith; his siblings, Thomas Cunningham and Ann Lage and his nieces and nephews, Scott Cunningham (Maureen), Allison Cunningham-Smith (Heath), Mark Lage (Trisha), Amy Lage, Arin Cunningham and David Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his brother, William. Dick grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Kansas State University in 1964 with a degree in civil engineering. He began his career working with Dugdale Construction in Omaha, before moving to Denver in 1981 to join KKBNA as a structural engineer. In 1984, Dick joined S.A. Miro, Inc. as an associate principle and became a principle in 1988, a position he held until his retirement in 2005. His notable projects included USAFA campus upgrades including Falcon Stadium and representing Dow Chemical Company in multiple court litigations. After his retirement, Dick continued his love of statistics, was chairman of the SEAC Snow Load Committee and received awards for outstanding contributions in snow load statistical analysis for structures. A celebration of Dickâs life will be held on Tuesday, May 15th from 4pm - 7pm at The Retreat at Solterra located at 15250 West Evans Avenue, Lakewood, Colorado. Internment will be held at a later date in Omaha, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be sent to Bridges Hospice, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
