Richard L. ""Rip"" England
1931-2019
With great sadness the family of Rip England announces his passing on February 10, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Rip was born to Hazel and Les England on June 22, 1931 in Seiling, Oklahoma, and was raised there and in Enid, Oklahoma.
As a child of the Great Depression, raised in the Dust Bowl, he learned early on the value of a dollar and of hard work. He retained his small town values of honesty, integrity, practicality and friendliness all his life.
He attended Oklahoma State University for one year, then completed 2 years of military service (Army) from 1952-1954, where he was stationed in San Francisco, Ca. It was there that he met his wife, Jean Marie Semper, to whom he was married for 54 joyful and busy years, until her death in 2009.
After his honorable discharge from the service, Rip attended the University of Oklahoma, earning a Master of Science degree in Geology. His work took Rip and Jean to Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Montana, but Lakewood, Colorado was his home for the past 50 years. He was employed at Atlantic Richfield for one year, then subsequently had a 29 year career at Chevron, retiring in 1990.
Rip and Jean were avid sports fans (Sooners, Broncos, Rockies), and also enjoyed travel domestic and international (including many memorable road trips), dining out, a good martini, golf, and time with family and friends. Rip had wonderful memories of his childhood, and had a strong interest in family history, and in the history of Dewey County, Oklahoma.
Rip was a family man who sacrificed to ensure a good future for his children and grandchildren. He passed on to his children the values of hard work, responsibility and doing your best to be a good person.
After his wife's passing in 2009, he felt fortunate to meet Nancy Papazian, his companion of the past 9 years, with whom he enjoyed many adventures and who brought him much happiness.
Rip is survived by his children Pamela (Gilbert) of San Francisco, Ca., Kurt (Jana) of Morrison, Co., Steven (Beth) of Castle Rock, Co., his grandchildren Kyle, Riley and Ben, his girlfriend Nancy of Littleton, Co., siblings Darla, Gary and Phil of Oklahoma, as well as one aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in Colorado, Oklahoma and Montana.
You'll be forever in our hearts, Dad. Rest in peace.
