Richard Kenneth Gilbert

Richard K. Gilbert, 85, a 3rd generation Colorado native passed away unexpectedly April 26, 2011, following a glorious Easter with family. He was the beloved husband of wife, Vivian ""Lovie"" for 61 years and proud father of Bev Gilbert Rice, Linda Gilbert Davis, Nancy Gilbert Wright, and wonderful sons-in-laws, Paul, Barclay, and Geoff. Dick was the grandfather of Craig and Sinead O'Dwyer-Rice, Lucas Rice, Nathan, Corbin and Laura Tobey-Davis, Tyler and Trevor Davis, and Courtney and Brittany Wright. Great grandfather of Corman O'Dwyer-Rice and Ila Mae Tobey-Davis. Dick was born on December 3, 1925 in Denver, Colorado. He met Vivian at the Washington Park United Methodist Church where their parents were long-time members. Vivian and Dick both went to South High then the University of Denver. Dick served in the Army Air Force and when he returned they married and began their family along with their construction company, RK Gilbert Construction, Inc. for 50 years. Dick had perfect attendance for 60 years in the Denver Lions Club and he was a board member for Historic Denver. Dick was a devoted family man, a pillar of strength and dignity. A Solstice Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2011, at First Plymouth Congregation Church, 3501 South Colorado Boulevard, Englewood, Colorado 80113, 303-762-0616.
