Richard L. Harlan

Richard Lee Harlan, 72, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at home. He was born in Denver, Colorado, July 7, 1939 to Homer S. and Edna (Grosenbaugh) Harlan. Richard graduated from East High School in Denver, the University of Colorado in Boulder, and received his PhD from Michigan State University in Hydrogeology. Following graduate school, Richard was employed by the Canadian Government and resided in Calgary, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario for 15 years. He returned to Denver and was employed by James & Moore as Chief Hydrogeologist for 11 years, taught at the School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, and established Harlan & Associates in 1990. He was actively employed until his untimely death. Richard leaves his children, Michael Burt and Kathryn June Harlan and two grandchildren, Annika June and Gavin Lee Harlan. He is survived by his brother, Dr. John R. Harlan and wife Carrie of Arizona, one niece, four nephews and six great nieces and nephews also in Arizona. Richard had many friends all over the United States and Canada. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying sailing, biking, skiing, and camping, as well as racquetball. He was a fantastic photographer, woodworker and he loved jazz. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Memorial Service will be Sunday, November 20th at Three O'Clock in the afternoon, Horan & McConaty, 3101 South Wadsworth Boulevard, Littleton, Colorado.
