Richard D. Hays, 87, of Denver, passed away peacefully in his care givers service at Garden Terrace May 21, 2020.
Dick was born June 19, 1932 in Denver, Colorado, to Ernest Lee and Alice Hays. His family lived in Denver Colorado his whole life. Dick worked as telephone and communications technician for several years. Richard married Carol Nisser on October 5, 1968 in Denver; and celebrated their 50th anniversary in October of 2018.
Dick was active in many groups including George Washington Lodge 161, Supper Club, Marry Mates, Geneva Basin Ski Patrol and YMCA to mention a few.
He loved Colorado and all of the beauty that it gives from day to day. He loved social gatherings and enjoyed sharing many stories of all kinds. He loved gardening and planted vegetables & flowers. He loved animals and kept bird feeders. He liked going on hikes and walks, and to Rockies games, brunch, dinner or lunch. He was in the Naval Reserve as a young man. He considered it one of his duties and donated blood and platelets regularly. He very much loved taking every possible opportunity to spend time with family and his three grandchildren. His eyes would light up and new life sprang to his face when he saw them. Dick was a kind and generous soul who enjoyed laughing with friends and family, and routinely went above and beyond to help someone out. His loving and gentle way will fondly be remembered.
He is survived by his sister Shirley, his daughters, Sharon and Diane and their husbands Tim and Tony, his grandchildren Ryan, Maggie, and Lauren.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his father Ernest Lee, and his mother Alice.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions that we must abide by as a society, there will be no memorial service. Dick's wishes are to be cremated and his ashes swept away by the mountain breeze at Mount Lindo. Arrangements will be made in the future to celebrate his life. Until then, thank you for your thoughts and prayers and for remembering him with a smile.
