Richard A. ""Dick"" Heflen

Richard ""Dick"" Heflen died in Denver, Colorado at the age of 78. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Saundra Heflen; children, Scott Heflen, Julie Ascarrunz, and Brian Heflen; grandsons, Dante Ascarrunz, Dmitri Ascarrunz, and Ethan Heflen of the Denver area. Dick was born on June 8, 1937 in Creston, IA to Guy Heflen and Veryl Allen. He married Saundra Livengood, his high school sweetheart in 1958. He graduated from Iowa State University in February of 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After moving to Denver, Dick began working as an Engineer. In 1965, he started Heflen Construction Company, building high rise apartments. Over the next five years, the couple adopted their three children. Dick's business turned toward commercial remodeling in the downtown Denver area. Dick was an avid photographer and loved the mountains. He and Sandi owned a cabin in Bufffalo Creek, Colorado where they spent most weekends and were active members of the community. Dick also loved to hunt and ski. He was a gregarious and fun loving individual who could always be counted on to lend a hand. He also loved to travel and he spent as much time as possible with friends and family. Funeral Service, Saturday, January 2, 2016, 11 am, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver. A Luncheon Reception follows.
