Richard Lee Luna Jr. of Colorado Springs passed away on November 1, 2022 at the age of 65. He was born May 31, 1957 in Pueblo, Colorado. Rich graduated from Widefield High School in 1975. He was the eldest of 4 children. Rich lived most of his life in the Colorado Springs area. He attended Fort Lewis College in Durango for a while, had a restaurant on the south side of Colorado Springs for several years, and worked a variety of construction jobs. He spoke fondly of his early working years at Safeway and the Antlers Hotel restaurant, but was most proud of his time working as an equipment operator in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Oman for nearly six years. He loved an adventure; his travels encompassed Spain, Thailand, and several countries in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates. He had many stories about the architecture, beaches, and culture of Dubai. But perhaps his favorite destinations were the camping and fishing trips and quality time with his son, whether that be the mountains of Colorado or the plains of Nebraska. Through the years, he loved cooking and found great joy in teaching and sharing his recipes with others. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos and enjoyed watching their games even when he was many time zones away working in the Middle East. Preceded in death by his brother Patrick K. Luna and his nephew Patrick R. Luna. Survived by his son Victor Luna, his daughter Theresa Luna, his grandson Elijah, and granddaughter Layla. Also survived by his parents Richard Luna Sr. and Ercilia (Duran) Luna, his brother Russel Luna, his sister Kelly Jeffers (Rodney), nephew Rodney Jeffers (Nadine), niece Haley Trujillo (Gabriel), and numerous great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will take place at Horan & McConaty (9998 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229). Viewing will be 10:00 am. to 12:00 pm, followed by a Funeral service at 12:00 pm. on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 "There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for everything under the heavens. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
