Richard ""Dick"" Ott

The Honorable Richard ""Dick"" Laurence Ott, born November 8, 1931 passed away on December 16, 2015. He was born in Denver and raised in the Washington Park neighborhood. Son of Carl and Elizabeth (O'Neill) Ott. Survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Ellen O'Grady. Preceded in death by his sisters Margarite and Rosemary, and his brother Carl, Jr. Preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine (Geri) Madden Ott (July 5, 1992). Geri and Dick were high school sweethearts who attended St. Francis Catholic High School in Denver. They were married in 1953 after Dick returned from serving in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. They settled in East Denver where they raised their four children. Dick married Penelope (Penny) Freel in 2001 after having been family friends for many years. At the time of Dick's passing, they were residing in Sun City West, and Prescott, Arizona. Survived by his children: Mary Antoinette (Toney) Ott (John Notar), Richard Leo Ott (Sally), LuAnn Regina Ott Jilot (Wayne Frank), Karen Elizabeth Brinckerhoff (Bill), stepson John Daniels (JD) Young (Mitzi), and grandchildren Christopher Jilot (Marsha Forney), Abigail Madden Ott, Andrew (AJ) Brinckerhoff (Darcy), Jon Brinckerhoff, Cody Young, Holly Young and Brenna Hunter. Dick is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Dick attended St. Francis Catholic High School and Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, Colorado. He obtained accounting and law degrees from The University of Denver. He was a member of the Colorado Bar Association and held his CPA. Dick was a prominent trial attorney in Denver from 1958 until his retirement in 2001, and he was a well-respected District Court Judge for the City and County of Denver. Dick was an Eagle Scout, was a member of the VFW and the Colorado State Pigeon Association, and participated in numerous other community organizations and volunteer associations. Mass will be held at Mother of God Catholic Church on Friday January 15, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial burial service at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Area ""C"" at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
