Richard Normile Perkins, 75 of Denver Colorado passed away on Saturday March 8, 2014 in the presence of family. He was born on June 26, 1938 to Roy and Josephine Perkins in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended Cambridge High and Latin School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He continued his education at Northeastern University where he graduated with a degree in accounting. While at Northeastern he was in ROTC and proceeded to enlist in the Army right out of college. The Army took him to many places including Fort Dix, NJ, Thule, Greenland, Fort Gordon, GA, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and then to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. This posting changed his life as he was set up on a blind date with Linda Smith. Within a few months of dating he was given a post in Taipei, Taiwan. Knowing that they were soul mates they married on June 3, 1967 and began their 46 years of married life together in a land far away. Upon Dick's return from Taiwan he transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserves. Dick began the career for which he had trained. He was an auditor for the IRS and the Department of Energy, and an accountant for the Air Force. Concurrently, Dick and Linda worked alongside one another for 34 years in a private tax practice. Dick retired first from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, then from his career as an accountant for the Air Force and finally from his tax practice just 2 years ago. Throughout his life, family was always a priority. He and Linda raised Richard, Taunya, and Nichole. As parents, they committed themselves to providing the best education they could from first grade through three college graduations. Dick really appreciated the natural world. He loved being outdoors most of all. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, golfing and gardening. If he had a few free hours you were likely to find him headed to Rocky Mountain National Park for the day. Dick was rooted in his Catholic Faith. He was a member of Notre Dame Church for 45 years. His other devotions were to country, community, friends and family. In remembering him he would want you to think of him as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, professional and patriot. Richard Normile Perkins is predeceased by his father, Mr. Roy A. Perkins and mother, Mrs. Josephine M. Perkins.
