He also wrote numerous history books about Gold Hill, CO, having interviewed many of the old timers there. He drew all 88 of their original cabins. The history books can be found in the Gold Hill Museum-Library and in Boulder's Carnegie library where he also gave presentations of the history of Gold Hill. He has written over 1, 000 poems that he considered his songs. Everyone knew his love of music for in a church service or musical, he would be ""directing the choir."" He has been recognized by many groups in which he was active such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions Club, and his work as a probation officer in Lamesa, TX. He is a life member of The Disabled Americans and has a lifetime membership in the Gideons which he supported generously. Richard taught school in Texas and is a retired teacher. He also is a retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant. Richard was talented in many ways. He had owned a TV repair shop which prepared him to work in Texas for a Christian TV station interviewing guest missionaries. He had a huge workshop. From there he built a free-standing art studio for himself and was a locksmith. While stationed in Mississippi Richard flagged for car races and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Spearfishing & Skindiving Clubs. His interests were numerous and varied, from the arts to the practical every day events as working for the railroad and summer jobs on the farm. Richard has been known at CVC to be generous with his artwork and has given prints of some of his drawings to people in appreciation of their efforts and attention. He said that God gave him the talent and he wanted to share it with others. Helen chose her favorite which is a pencil drawing of a Texas windmill shrunk to half a page and a poem also done by Richard on the other half. Please accept it as his gift to you.
