Richard (Dick) Schild, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 18th. He is survived by his spouse, Barbara; son, Dean; daughter, Corinne; and sister, Beverly. He was a man of many values and cared deeply for justice. He will be sincerely missed by his family and remembered for his nutty sense of humor.
Dick was born and raised in Nyack, NY by his parents, Robert and Nadine. He attended Cornell University where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. In 1981, he and Barbara married and raised their children in the Nyack area. Dick was employed for 35 years as a dedicated Systems Designer at Orange and Rockland Utilities. After retirement, Dick and Barb moved to Rochester, NY where they lived 14 enjoyable years in the picturesque Finger Lakes region. They most recently moved to Denver, Colorado in June, 2024 to be closer to their children and embrace new adventures.
Dick lived a life full of hobbies and passions which was most notably expressed through his connection with nature and the outdoors. For nearly 40 years, he and a small group of college/high school friends made annual trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to camp and hike. Dick proudly became a member of the distinguished AMC Four Thousand Footer Club having climbed all 48 of New Hampshire's 4,000-foot peaks. He was also an avid tennis and paddle tennis player. As a teenager, he won the Rockland County Men's Tennis Tournament and was a member of the Nyack Field Club and later, the Tennis Club of Rochester. He also was a devoted Islanders and Mets fan.
Dick's sense of adventure extended to travel, as he delighted in exploring new places with his family. He made many cherished trips to Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Dick had a lifelong appreciation of music, particularly the Allman Brothers, and enjoyed playing the drums himself. Lastly, those close to Dick know him best for being a foodie and his love for eating.
Dick left us all with great memories. A celebration of his life will be held at a later time to be decided by the family.
