Richard M. Skaufel

Richard M. Skaufel passed away Sunday June 11, 2017. He was 84 years old. He was born January 19, 1933 in Cooperstown, ND to Inga Wisdahl and Morris Skaufel. Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; children Pamela, Brenda, Rodney, Timothy and Linda; son-in laws Ken Davidson, Charles Spaur and Matthew Herbst; daughter-in-law Pamela Kearney Skaufel; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mr. Skaufel was a Radioman in the US Navy from 1951-55 and served in the Korean War. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1958 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with Hughes Aircraft for 32 years where he worked on satellite tracking systems. He was a resident of Aurora, CO since 1970. Mr. Skaufel loved sports. In high school, he played football, basketball and baseball. As an adult, he was a voracious HORSE player and loved playing a few games after dinner. He coached youth sports for the City of Aurora, and later in life become the ultimate armchair quarterback and loyal Rockies fan. He loved to tinker and repair anything that broke. That sharp engineering mind and his fantastic sense of humor were apparent till his last days. He was a generous, kind, intelligent and funny man – he was our cornerstone – we will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held at Horan & McConaty on Mon, Jun 19, 2017 at 5:00 PM followed by a rosary service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (19099 E Floyd Ave, Aurora, CO 80013) Tue, Jun 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM. A lunch reception will follow. Mr. Skaufel's graveside service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007-8001.
