Richard Sweet

Richard (Rick) E. Sweet, age 77, passed away on August 27, 2023 in Parker Colorado. He was born in Morrisville, Vermont on September 15, 1945 attending both elementary and high school while in Vermont. After his 18th birthday, Rick joined the U.S. Army on September 18, 1962 in the Signal Corps, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge from the Army on June 16, 1971.  On August 25, 1971, he joined the U.S. Air Force as an Electric Power Production Specialist and later as a Safety Technician before retiring on November 30, 1982. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 3 years before joining NASA for 23 years as a Safety Engineer and retired in 2006.

 

He loved fishing, traveling to all 50 states and spending time with family across the country. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, coached youth baseball, and volunteered with the Robotics Club in Brevard County, Florida.

 

Rick is survived by his wife Carol of 57 years, their son Gary (and his wife Peggy), daughter Christine (and her husband Michael), five grandchildren (Michael, Julie, Owen, Shane, Scharle’), and two great-grandchildren (Eva and Eric).  He is also survived by his brother Jim (and his wife Sherry), cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

 

Services will take place at Pike’s Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 12th, 2023 at 1PM Mountain Standard Time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veteran’s (DAV) organization at this address:  DAV

 

Rick’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who interacted with him throughout his wonderful life.
