Richard "Dick" Bradley

September 25, 1928 — August 20, 2020

Denver

Richard Anthony “Dick” Bradley, age 91, died in Denver, Colorado, on August 20, 2020.

Dick was born on September 25, 1928, in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in the area of 12th and Detroit as one of five children.

Dick began his education at St. Philomena Catholic School and graduated from St. Francis High School. He graduated from DU (Denver University) with a BA and MA in Education.

He proudly served two years in the US Army, stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War.  After serving his country, Dick began teaching elementary school in the Denver Public Schools. He taught grades four through six for 33 years until his retirement in 1984.

In addition to teaching and raising a family, Dick gave freely of his time. He was one of the founding families of Notre Dame Catholic Church and served as the Director of Religious Education for many years. He could be found on Saturdays doing repairs on the church, rectory, and convent. Dick was also active in the Golden Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program). Dick was an avid golfer and was a member of the Dukes of Windsor Men’s Club at Windsor Gardens.

In the second grade, Dick met the love of his life, Alice Smith.  They were married in 1953 and raised two daughters in southwest Denver. Sadly, in July, 2000, Dick and Alice lost their oldest daughter, Cathy. Alice passed in May, 2017. Through these challenging times, Dick never lost his bright outlook on life. He always had a corny joke at the ready for anyone who would listen. The great grandchildren were fair game for one of Grandpa’s jokes.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Barbara Cramer; four grandchildren Keith DeSciose (Marianne), Diana Sorber, Amanda Karger (Mark), and Rebecca Cramer; six great grandchildren Taylor DeSciose, Mason Sorber, Brady DeSciose, Isabelle Karger, Logan Karger, and Roein Atkinson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, and his daughter, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Siroky (Curt), along with his brother and sisters Adele Tinetti, Henry Bradley, Clara Bradley, and Sharon Stephens.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 30, at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a rosary at 6:00 PM.  Committal and entombment will be on Monday, August 31, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Madonna Mausoleum, at 10:00 AM. A mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless can be made in Dick’s name.  https://www.coloradocoalition.org/donate
