Richard "Dick" Hewitt

Richard Dwight “Dick” Hewitt, a former longtime resident and an original founding father of Northglenn, passed away at the age of 81 on November 11, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol, his children Traci Bilek (Carl) of Highlands Ranch and Tom Hewitt (Karen) of Aurora, and his grandchildren Aaron (Emily), Ethan, Olivia, Owen, Harrison, and Evelyn.

Dick was born in Spokane, WA on January 12, 1939. The son of a Lt. Col. in the Army Air Corps/Air Force, he grew up in such places as Port Townsend, WA and Bremerton, Germany before his family settled in Aurora near the former Lowry Air Force Base. Dick graduated from East High School in Denver and from the University of Denver. He spent his entire professional career working in the Denver Public Schools system at Rishel Junior High School, West High School and Manual High School as a social studies teacher and counselor for college-bound students. He was passionate about education and enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge of Denver history with all. He was chairman of the Retired Teachers Scholarship fund for many years which provided money for Denver high school students to help pursue their college ambitions.

Dick enjoyed attending Denver Bears, Denver Zephyrs, and Colorado Rockies games. He also enjoyed creating Easter egg treasure hunts for his grandchildren. He always described his height as two meters tall and said his age was always 29 years old. He was beloved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

A private interment will be held at Crown Hill Tower of Memories.
