Harry R. ""Rick"" Wheeler, 69, of Parker. Husband of Joan McCann. Father of Stephanie Wheeler (Mark Watkins) and Sabrina McKenna (Tim McKenna). Grandfather of Zachary and Riley Watkins and Abby McKenna. Brother of Maureen Alvarez (Conrad Alvarez). Uncle and Great Uncle to many. Vigil Service Friday, 1:30PM, Horan and McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Interment, Fort Logan National Cemetery. Rick Wheeler died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from heart failure. Rick spent his last day on earth doing what he loved… driving the motor home, working on the computer, and enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather. Rick was born December 8, 1938 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was the oldest of three children and is survived by his sister. Rick attended Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Creighton University and graduated from Sioux Falls College. He served in the Finance Corps in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1973. Rick then worked for the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center as both the Deputy Director of Military Pay and the Deputy Director of Retired Pay. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Department of the Air Force in 1977. Rick was a collector of many things. He enjoyed trains, guns, orchids, and clothes - he loved his boots and hats! Rick had a beautiful boat and enjoyed fishing and waterskiing. He loved his dogs, he would often sit on the back porch and watch them play in the yard. If he wasn't in the yard, he was in the computer room or watching a car race on TV.
