Rita Helene McCallan

April 11, 1924 — November 2, 2017

Rita McCallan passed away on Nov. 2, 2017 peacefully in her home in Golden, Colorado. She was born in Omaha, NE on April 11, 1924 to Elmer and Margaret McAleer. She had one sister, Elaine, who she loved dearly. After graduating from nursing school in Omaha, Rita married J. Barry McCallan on May 15, 1946. They went on to have seven children, and moved to Colorado in 1962. Rita was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother to sixteen and great grandmother to eleven. In her younger years, she loved to golf and travel. She was an avid fan of the Broncos and Rockies, even attending games in the past few months. Mostly, Rita cherished being with her family and friends. She was never happier than when her home was filled with those she held most dear. She had an unwavering faith in God. She will always be remembered for her grace and kindness. We were blessed to have such loving caregivers who provided companionship and compassion to Rita, allowing her to remain in her home until she was reunited with Barry in heaven. Rita is survived by her children, Margie Hunter (husband Bill Hunter), Maureen MacMackin, John McCallan (wife Susan McCallan), Marilyn McCallan, Mike McCallan, Marcia Chaput, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Barry McCallan, daughter, Marianne Reid, grandson, Casey MacMackin and son-in-law Steve MacMackin.
