Robert Burton Arterburn passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born on March 3, 1936 in Fort Morgan, CO to Fred Burton Arterburn and Margaret Marie (Lauck). An only child, Bob was raised in the close-knit rural community of Otis in northeastern Colorado where he loved the outdoors, roaming the hills in search of arrowheads, reading and playing sports.
Bob studied Chemistry and earned his teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado (formerly Colorado State College) in Greeley, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann (Buchanan). Bob was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and made many life-long friends while attending college. Bob served in the Air National Guard and later earned a Master’s degree from the University of Denver.
Bob worked for over 30 years at the Gates Rubber Company until his retirement in 1996. He and Barb moved to Canon City, built their beautiful dream home near college friends, and played many rounds of golf while always making sure to save time for the 19th hole. Enjoying retirement for Bob also meant spending some well-deserved time off fishing on the Arkansas. He and Barb were happily married for 59 years, when in 2018 she was called to heaven. He is survived by his three children: Jeff (Michelle), Julie (Bret) and Jon, and their five granddaughters: Amanda, Kara, Sophia, Indie and Ada. Bob deeply loved his family, adored each of his precious granddaughters, and was always planning the next camping, fishing, hunting or boating trip. He led many family backpacking trips to remote high mountain lakes throughout Colorado, where his favorite fishing fly pattern was the classic Brown Hackle Peacock. He was a loyal fan of the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, whether they were winning or losing, and always enjoyed singing out during Sunday services.
