Robert "Bob" Duane Asmus, age 83, of Denver, Colorado passed away on February 16, 2023. Bob was born on September 25, 1939 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Robert Asmus and Helen Greenwalt. He grew up in Fort Collins and later graduated with Bachelors’ and Master’s degrees in Education from what is now known as the University of Northern Colorado.
Bob became a teacher and then a principal in the public schools of Fort Collins. He had the honor of opening two new elementary schools as principal, Riffenburgh and Beattie. The impact he had on his staff and students is immeasurable.
He was married for eleven years to Mary Frances Morris, and they had three children. He later moved to Denver where he worked as a school photographer and at the Colorado Department of Education before joining Cherry Creek School District as a principal and teacher.
Bob retired from teaching at age 55 and went on to have another career working in the Denver Elections office for several years before retiring again.
He was a leader in the LGBTQ+ community for decades and was involved in many social and political causes.
For the past thirty-six years Bob has shared his life and his family with Wade Bealer.
Bob is also survived by daughters Roberta Goodall (Scott) and Janet Brandt (Gary), former daughter in law Janelle Asmus, four granddaughters: Amanda Brandt (Matt Hoover), Jordan Goodall, Emma Wilken (Joel) and Katie Goodall, as well as two great-granddaughters who were born in 2022: Etta Wilken and Jane Hoover. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his son Andrew Asmus.
People who met Bob will never forget him. He was a smart, kind, and joyful spirit who loved life, his friends and family. He accepted people for who they are, and he encouraged folks to live life on their terms, with fun and love. His piano playing, hats, martinis, and various travels are legendary and will be cherished memories for all who had the privilege to be in his orbit.
Rest in Peace Bob Asmus as we continue your legacy of Joy, Advocacy and Truth.
A Celebration of Life event will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2pm, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver.
The family suggests that donations be made to Project Angel Heart in honor of Bob Asmus.
