Robert Irving Carlson, Rocky Flats Retiree Bob Carlson, 89, passed away in the early morning hours of May 12, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey Carlson; his eight children, Mike (Dorothy) Carlson, Pat (Kent) Sailsbery, Mary Carlson, Theresa Carlson, Christine Carlson, Paul Carlson, Jim Carlson and Donna (Mike) Koob; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his four siblings and one grandson, Derek Carlson. Bob was born at home in Escanaba, Michigan and was the youngest of five children. In 1961, Bob and Audrey moved to Colorado, making Arvada their home in 1962 when Bob was employed by Dow Chemical Company. He was employed at Rocky Flats for 27 years, as a radiation monitor and metallurgist, where he was very active in the Union. From 1977-1983 he served on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Flats Credit Union (Community Financial Credit Union). Bob was a friend to all and was well known wherever he went and was fondly referred to by his nicknames: Trouble, Maytag, or Bible Bob. He was very proud of his family and most everyone he met has seen the picture of his family that he carried in his wallet. His hobbies included spending time in the garage fixing or making something. He did everything from welding to woodworking to plumbing and electrical, and he was good at everything he did. He was very creative and liked to experiment with colors and textures. He even created a way to hand-dig a 50 foot well (10 inches in diameter) in the back yard, and yes, he did find water. Bob's Memorial Service will be Saturday, May 17, 2014, 11 AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada. The family invites you to share your memories of Bob and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook below.
