Robert B. Cook was born in Fremont, Nebraska on July 27, 1927. He moved to Colorado Springs with his parents and sisters, Bert and Betty, when he was 7 years old. He attended school in Colorado Springs and graduated from Palmer High School in 1944. Bob enlisted in the Navy as a Seaman, First Class at the age of 17 and served as a signalman on the USS Cotton for one tour in the Pacific toward the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. Following his military service, he started his career with Western Electric in 1948. It was there, in 1950, that he met his wife to be, Marjorie Jean Kovarik, who was working as a telephone operator and was living at the YWCA next door. They were married on October 27, 1951 at St. Mary's Church in Colorado Springs. For the next ten years, his job with Western Electric took him and Marjorie to many cities, where they meet their life-long friends; this core group of friends remain close to this day. In 1963 he moved his family to Arvada and started a new job with Mountain Bell. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving at many different levels. The Cook's were foster parents to over 21 children and received recognition as ""Foster Parents of the Year"" by Jefferson County in 1968. In 1970, the Cook's purchased property at ""Sportsmen's Paradise"" in Lake George, Colorado. They built a small A-frame cabin on the South Platte River. For 30 years family and friends have enjoyed mountain life with fishing, hiking, and spending time together. In 1978, Bob and Marge moved to Centennial. He continued his career with Mountain Bell until his retirement in 1983 with 36 years of service. Together they enjoyed traveling across the USA in a motor home with their old telephone buddies. In 2000, Bob and Margie began wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 9, 2014, after a long illness.
