Robert Leighton Detwiler, age 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 5th, 2024. He was born in St Louis, MO April 27th, 1937. He and his family moved to Denver, CO in 1947. He is a proud graduate of South High School and Denver University (DU). Bob was a proud salesman of 40 years. He worked for the Rio Grande railroad as his first job and worked there for many years. He continued his career within trucking sales and gained lifelong friends along the way. Through his years of sales, Bob knew the Denver area well and took great pride in knowing exactly how to get to anywhere without the assistance of a map, GPS, Google, etc., etc., etc.
Bob enjoyed golf, Happy Hour, pickle ball (before it became the newest sensation), trains, traveling to Lake Powell, Mexico, Costa Rica, London, Perth and Europe. He loved playing on the water with boats and jet skis. Bob also loved camping in the mountains of Colorado. He was a Denver Broncos fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. He could usually be found most afternoons enjoying a scotch with a splash of water. Whatever Bob did, he had a great time. He also wanted everyone around him to have a great time too. He was a perfect depiction of the work hard, play hard lifestyle.
Bob is survived by his 3 children. John Detwiler (Lucia Agnello), Devin Detwiler (John Cunningham) and David Detwiler (Mary Detwiler) and his Grand Children; Jacob Detwiler, Tia Agnello, Sean Cunningham, Derek Cunningham, Leighton Detwiler, and Peter Detwiler. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leighton and Bessie Detwiler and his sister, Bessie June Bennett.
Bob lived a long and beautiful life and his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew him. Share your stories of remembrance on Friday, August 30th at Horan & McConaty 11150 E Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO 80014 from 3-4 pm.
