Robert Eugene Hamilton, age 83, passed away at Ann Arbor, Michigan on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 after a struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on August 18, 1932 in Hydro, Oklahoma, he grew up in Hydro and lived in Oklahoma, California, Massachusetts, Colorado, and Michigan. He worked as a mailman for the U.S. Post Office from 1965 until his retirement in 1990. Robert was a member of the Catholic Church. Robert served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy and was on duty in the Pacific from 1952-1956. He met his wife Billie Jo Wegner (who preceded him in death) in Oklahoma City where they were married in 1963. He worked as a draftsman for various civil engineering firms before becoming a mailman in southern California where he delivered mail to celebrities such as John Wayne, Mamie Van Doran, Joey Bishop, and Andy Devine. Robert and Billie Jo raised their three children in Costa Mesa, California before retiring to Colorado. Both Robert and Billie Jo had a love for trains and travel. During their retirement years together they enjoyed traveling to all of the lower 48 states in their motor home. They had a special fondness for both the urban atmosphere of New York City and for the beauty of the autumn leaves in New England. Robert enjoyed building HO scale model railroad layouts. He also took pleasure in building scale models of the metropolitan Denver area, the State of Colorado, Los Angeles, New York City, Worcester, Massachusetts, and the United States. He had a sharp mind, a love of maps, and a dry sense of humor. Survivors include his sister Nadine Long of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his three children â Joseph Hamilton of Santa Ana, California; Carol (Shawn) Holmes of Aurora, Colorado; and Diane (Robert) McIntyre of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is also survived by his two grandchildren â Marlena Lillian McIntyre and Amanda Grace Holmes. Robert was preceded in death by his parents â James Joseph Hamilton and Lavona (Seward) Hamilton; his five siblings â James Joseph Hamilton Jr., William Carlyle Hamilton, Lowell Kenneth Hamilton, Melba Josephine Schmitt, and Norma Jean Russell. He was also preceded in death by his wife Billie Josephine Hamilton. Services will be held at 11:30am, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Horan & McConaty located at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., in Lakewood, Colorado. A graveside service will follow at 1:15pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery located at 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue in Denver, Colorado.
