Robert Louis Joiner Sr. Born April 3, 1929 in Granite City Illinois. Passed away September 28, 2012 in Aurora, Colorado. Bob passed away on September 28, 2012, he was 83. He is survived by his children Harlyn (Amy), Griffith, Sr., Susan (Johnnie) Armor, Bobby (Kim) Joiner Jr; 5 grandchildren, Harlyn Griffith Jr., Christopher (Lisa) Griffith, Daniel (Ericka) Joiner, Brooke Joiner, Joshua Armor. 4 great-grandchildren, Kayla Griffith, Austin Griffith, Logan Amelia and Reece Lynn Joiner. Sisters, Jeanette Stone, Rosie (Jim) Davidson. Numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Joiner and parents, Emmitt and Avis Joiner. Visitation 3-7 p.m, Thursday, October 4, Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave. Aurora. Graveside service, 11:15 a.m., Friday, October 5, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area C, followed by a Memorial Service and Luncheon at 3:30p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1450 Airport Blvd. Aurora. Bob served the Army in 1944-1949 and the Air Force in 1949-1973. He retired as a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. During his military career he was active duty in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Bob had a full life that included many adventures. As a young boy he spent his summers in Tennessee with his grandfather, otherwise known as ""Uncle Bud,"" on the tobacco farm. Growing up in Granite City Illinois across the river from St. Louis, you could find Bob sneaking into the St. Louis Cardinals games, including the World Series. Bob attended Granite City High School in Granite City Illinois and by the age of sixteen had his mother sign for him to join the Army. The Army took him away from his home town to Fort. Leonard Wood Missouri where he completed basic training to start his world wide adventure in the military. Bob's first assignment was during WWII where he was sent to Hiroshima. He eventually ended up at Lowry Air force Base where he met the love of his life, Joyce in May of 1963. Bob was playing jacks on the front porch with Joyce's daughter Susan when the two met. Bob and Joyce were married soon after on October 1, 1963 and moved to Northern California and started their new life together with their two children, Harlyn and Susan. Bob and Joyce had a son, Robert Jr. and then moved to San Antonio Texas. He was assigned to Greenland for eighteen months while the family stayed in the Denver area. Upon Bob's return, the family moved to Wichita Kansas where he was in charge of the commissary and eventually was promoted to mortuary affairs. Ankara Turkey was the next stop for the family where Bob was in charge of the commissary. At the end of his military career, Bob and his family moved to Denver, Colorado where he retired. After the military Bob began a career with Pepsi Cola where he was the Security Supervisor. While working at Pepsi he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. In 1991, Bob retired from Pepsi and traveled with his wife and grandchildren on numerous summer vacations. Bob was involved at Bethel Lutheran Church in Aurora where he participated as an usher and a greeter. He spent a lifetime loving and caring for his family, friends, and neighbors. People will always remember his warm smile and the way he made everyone laugh. He will be remembered always. ""Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.""
