Robert “Bob” Jones, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 6, 2025.
Bob was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, in the spring of 1939. He graduated from Iowa State University with an industrial engineering degree. He fulfilled an Army ROTC obligation and became an officer in the Army. Bob completed airborne training before being transferred to France, where he became a first lieutenant. After the Army, Bob enjoyed a 32-year career with IBM. While his work with IBM involved many transfers across the country, Bob took on lots of business travel so his family could have a stable home life based in Potomac, Maryland.
Bob met Liz, the love of his life, while in college. They married in 1965 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in April 2025. Bob and Liz created a wonderful family for their three children, whom they supported in all their endeavors. Throughout his life, Bob has loved sports as a runner and skier, an avid parent and grandparent to swimmers, a golf tournament official, and a fan of many college and professional sports teams. Bob and Liz retired and moved to Colorado in 1999, where they could enjoy the mountains, skiing, and time outdoors with their beloved dogs: Floppy, Marley, Diva, and Shawnee.
In his retirement, Bob was a founding member of the Mountain Foothills Rotary Club and served on the Board of Evergreen Christian Outreach. Bob’s faith as a Roman Catholic was a compass for him throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his wife Liz (Highlands Ranch, CO), his son Brad (Kate) of Bellingham, WA, his daughter Katherine (Don) of Austin, TX, and his son Stephen (Flora). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Wondemneh, Gavin, Derek, and Josephine. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sue, Emmy, and Robert. Bob has many beloved nephews and nieces throughout the country. Bob’s family was the center of his life.
Bob was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his absence will be profoundly felt. The family wishes to thank the incredible team of caregivers at Vi Highlands Ranch, who honored his final days with warm and professional care.
The family requests donations instead of flowers to one of two charities that were important to Bob:
Bob will rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Later this year, a celebration of life and service will be held.
