Former City Council Member and long time Thornton resident Robert “Bob” Johnson passed away on Sunday, November 19 after battling a short illness. Bob was born in Denver on January 17, 1954 at Rose Medical Center and grew up in Adams County north of Denver. Bob attended and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1972 and went on to play in many local bands of the area. In 1977, Bob joined the Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp Smith in Hawaii. After being Honorably Discharged from the Marine’s, he and his wife Jan settled in Thornton, where they raised their two sons Ben and Jeramiah. Bob ran for and won his city council seat in 1988 and served the city until 1998. During his tenure on Thornton City Council, Bob was involved with many projects including the building of the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center and the continual development of the city. Bob owned and ran his own HOA Management business eventually retiring in 2017. After retirement, he and his wife traveled, welcomed many grandchildren and enjoyed life. Bob was preceded in death by his mother Mary E. Johnson and is survived by his loving spouse of 45 years Jan Johnson of Thornton, son Ben and (Angela) of Thornton and son Jeremiah Johnson and (Stephanie) of Thornton. Bob is also survived by his four Grand-Children Jacob, Hailey, Joanie and Cecil. Services will be at Horan & McConaty Funeral home at 9998 Grant St, Thornton on January 8, 2024, at 11:00 am.
