Robert ""Bob"" Bruce June

November 20, 1929 — July 22, 2014

Robert Bruce June was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on Nov. 20, 1929, ""in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty."" Bob was one of two children, the other being his sister Shirley. He attended Dickenson High School and sang in the Trinity Methodist Church choir in New York City. He rode the subway into the city at Wall St. starting at age 9 to go to choir practices and performances. He sang in the choir until age 14. Bob had many interesting experiences including watching the German Dirigible, the Hindenburg, crash in May 1937. He lived thru the ""total blackouts"" every night during WWII to prevent enemy ships and submarines from knowing where they were. He participated in the celebration of the end of the war on VJ day by climbing a street light pole in front of the Paramount Movie Theatre and shouting at the top of his lungs. With the start of the Korean War, Bob was inducted into the Air Force in February, 1951. He did some training at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver and became an instructor teaching Airmen the missile guidance systems. While training in Denver, he learned to ski and fell in love with the West. While in Denver, Bob met his future wife and best friend, Viola Beste from Sauk Centre, MN in 1953 at an outdoor concert at Cheeseman Park. They were married in July 1954. Together they raised a family of 6 children. Just this past July 16, they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Hunting and fishing were lifelong enjoyments for Bob and baseball was a passion. He rode in the Ride the Rockies bicycle events in 1992 and 1994 at the ages of 62 and 64. He loved dogs. Bob was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, served on the RTD Board of Directors, and was one of the founding members of the Westminster Progressive Homeowners Association where he served as Director as well as every capacity throughout the last 30 years. Bob is survived by his wife Vi, 5 children, Karen Pilgrim (Mark), Nancy White (Bill), Mary June, Daniel June (Susie), Kate Crowley (Jim); eight grandchildren: David Pilgrim, Emily Pilgrim, Ann White, Daniel White, Ryan June, Evan June, Dane June, Jessica Crowley; and 2 great grandchildren, Allyson Jaramillo and Kayla Jaramillo.
