Robert Kirkpatrick Jr.

December 3, 1953 — January 2, 2022

Robert Read ‘Big Daddio’ Kirkpatrick Jr., immensely loved and adored husband, father, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly in Denver, Colorado on January 2, 2022. We suspect, mainly, to prevent himself from having to watch the Broncos lose their upcoming games.

Read was born in Memphis, Tennessee on Dec. 3, 1953 to Bob & Peggy Kirkpatrick. After graduating with a Masters degree from Ole Miss, he made his way west to Colorado where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Taylor. He and Mary created a full and beautiful life together over decades. They made a family, traveled, celebrated, adventured, and built a million dreams and memories. In November of 2021 they celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Read was both an incredible father and youth leader. He gently guided his children and many others to be strong, independent, individual and empathetic. He was a scout master, coach, teacher, sailing captain, dance partner, and forever the number one fan to everyone who looked to him for support. He loved to share what he loved, and his children and many many others will carry with them all the ‘Dadisms’ he used as a primary teaching method. Example, ‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you’re going to be right.’ He brought so much laughter, joy and love into the lives of many and we will all miss him every day.

Read is survived by his wife Mary Taylor Kirkpatrick and their children Kathryn Taylor, Meghan, and Thompson, his brother Tom Kirkpatrick and his nieces, nephews and son in law. He was preceded in death by his sister and his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 16th, 2022 at the Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club from 2-5PM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The First Tee, a Denver organization that integrates the game of golf with life skills curriculum to support youth in disadvantaged communities. If preferred we are accepting donations to assist Mom with expenses.
