Robert Konkol

August 2, 1940 — June 16, 2022

Robert Adam Konkol, Sr., 81, passed away on June 16, 2022. Born August 2, 1940, in Chicago, IL, to Stanley and Helen (Maniszko), and was the second of what would eventually be ten children.

Bob enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1957 at the age of 17 and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base just outside of Denver, CO, served for four years, and was honorably discharged in 1961.

He then took what he learned in the Air Force as a mechanic and became a machinist with Gardner Denver/Cooper Industries. He started out as the employee who swept up the metal shards on the factory floor, but was subsequently trained as a Machinist, and eventually worked his way up to Foreman. He spent the last third of his career at Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant, though he didn't work on the "hot side" as he always liked to say. He was on the company Softball and Bowling Teams and enjoyed playing Bingo and going Fishing.

His real passion, however, was for the Denver Broncos Football Team, which he sometimes referred to as the "Denver Donkeys" when he didn't feel that they were playing very well. In his belongings was a Denver Post article about John Elway's induction into the NFL Football Hall of Fame along with his well-worn Broncos Hat.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Stanley "Lefty", Joseph, Richard, and Lawrence.

He is survived by his brothers Francis (Mary), Michael (Carol) and Vernon, sisters Veronica (Lange) and Florence (Matl). He is also survived by his five children, Robert, Jr. (Monica), Mary (Joseph), Steven (Tracy), Lawrence (Marnie) and Kathleen Larason (Michael), as well as 12 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Bob will be buried with Military Honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery on July 6th at 1:00 p.m.
