Surrounded by his loving family, 'Bob' LaGuardia died on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colorado. Bob was born in New York City to Robert Joseph and Anne Mary Spitz LaGuardia. He grew up in Astoria, New York and Clifton, New Jersey. When Bob was sixteen, the family moved to Covina, California. Bob graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, California with a degree in Accounting. He attended Cal Poly on a golf scholarship and was the captain of the golf team his senior year. In a family of Irish and German immigrants, Bob was the first to obtain a college degree. His career was detoured by the Vietnam War. In 1964 Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After Officer Training School at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, he was assigned to the Auditor General Resident Office, HQ Command, F. E. Warren AFB in Wyoming. In Cheyenne, Bob met and fell in love with JoAnn Jeremiason, his bride of 50 years. On August 13, 1966 a handsome Air Force Lieutenant and a lovely English teacher were married in a traditional crossed sabers military ceremony in the base chapel. The Air Force had further plans - a move to Hill Air Force Base in Utah. He achieved the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged. After four years of active military duty, Bob and JoAnn moved to Denver, Colorado. Through hard work, Bob proudly became a CPA. He was a financial officer in the oil and gas industry working at King Resources, Petro Lewis, and American Energy Resources. His work additionally included time at the FDIC, Commnet Cellular, Arnold Mechanical, and Columbia Savings. Although Bob played often and always enjoyed golf, he never missed a Broncos kickoff. Sports interests later shifted to the girls' track meets and volleyball games. Recently the grandsons' t-ball and soccer games won his attention. Always a voracious reader, the invitation to join a monthly men's book club opened a world of books and friendships. Bob is survived by loving wife JoAnn, adored daughters Elizabeth LaGuardia, M.D. and Megan Land, their husbands Scott Allen and Todd Land, grandsons Owen Allen, 6, Payson, 8, and Dillon Land, 5, and sisters, Maryanne LaGuardia (Alan Watenmaker) and Clare Fletcher (Larry). He was most proud to be called 'Granddad'. Always a quiet man, love was obvious by his kindness and smiles when the family gathered. Bob was preceded in death by his precious daughter Lynn (1969-1971) and his parents. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 10, 2016, 10 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado. Burial will be at Pineslope Cemetery, Belle Fourche, South Dakota, at a later date. The family suggests memorial gifts to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1820 Broadway, Denver, CO 80202 or Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation, Anschutz Medical Campus, 13123 East 16th Ave., Box 045, Aurora, CO 80045.
